The Miscommunication

The Miscommunication

“You are my best friend Nidhi, I want you there at my birthday party at any cost.”

Varun had always admired Nidhi a lot more than friends but that was just a one sided attraction. Nidhi never took him more than a best friend. She never even had the faintest of a hint. They were great together and had a lot of fun but that was just the end of the line for her.

“I told you Varun I have an exam day after tomorrow. I can’t be at your birthday bash tomorrow but I will meet you the next day for sure. And let me tell you, I have decided what to gift you. Just wait for it and you will love it.” She explained.

“It’s your parents aren’t they? You can study all you want before my party you know it. But they won’t allow you right?” he exclaimed frustrated. She held his hand. “It’s not like that Varun, I…” She was explaining when he interrupted “Then what is it Nidhi? You know you are my best friend. What will my friends think when you don’t turn up?” “It is an important exam for me Varun why don’t you understand. Why are you so furious about it? We’ll hang out some other day” she tried to explain.

“I will have fun with my friends. But you don’t talk to me ever again.” he said in an irritated tone looking straight into her eyes. She sighed.

For a brief time there was silence between them. She could not understand what was wrong with him and why he was acting like she was his girlfriend. He was too lost in her eyes to think of anything else. She thought it was better to break the moment and leave for her home. It was no use arguing over the matter with him anymore.

“Miss me!” she said. He mistook it as “Kiss Me."

He kissed her on her lips with a tender affection. Puzzled, she stepped back. Perplexity spread through her eyes. She slapped him in anger and left the place frantically. He stood there baffled.

Yes, some miscommunication. But, if she wanted him to miss her, sooner than later the kiss would have happened. Some girls just like to take it slow. Very real post. Stemming from experience, is it? :D
